Trauma & EMDR therapy

Trauma can continue to shape how you feel, respond and relate—even when the experience happened long ago.

Therapy can help you understand these responses, feel safer in the present and reduce the hold the past has on your daily life.

When the past still feels present

Trauma does not always appear as a clear memory. It may show up as anxiety, emotional numbness, intrusive thoughts, difficulty trusting, people-pleasing or feeling constantly on alert.

You may understand logically that you are safe while your body continues to respond as though something is wrong. These reactions are not personal failures. They are ways your mind and body learned to protect you.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing—or EMDR—is a trauma therapy that uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain process distressing experiences.

You remain aware and in control throughout the process, and you do not always need to describe every detail of what happened. EMDR is introduced thoughtfully, with attention to your readiness, comfort and goals.

What therapy may look like

Build safety

We begin by understanding what you are experiencing and developing strategies to support stability and emotional regulation.

Process experiences

When you feel ready, we may work with memories, beliefs or triggers that continue to affect you.

Move forward

We support new ways of responding so that the past feels less immediate and you can engage more fully in the present.

You do not have to carry this alone.

A free 15-minute consultation can help us determine whether trauma therapy or EMDR may be a good fit for you.
